First of all this photo by Man Ray "Le Violon d'Ingres" is perhaps my favorite piece of all time!!! By adding the F-holes, Man Ray seemed to advocate for the feminist movements, and the belief that females should be allowed to do whatever they please. The female nude was inspired by the work of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, as is seen in the English translation of the title, “Ingres’s Violin.” Ingres, who was deemed one of the most innovative artists of the Neoclassical period; created works such as the Turkish Bath in which a courtesan, sits posterior to the viewer and ironically plays some sort of stringed instrument, in contrast to Man Ray’s photo in which the instrument is playing her.-Gingi Statman
