a find.

I went to the Book Thing this Saturday and while quickly glancing over the classics section, a Tom Wolfe caught my eye. I thought it was interesting that I found this book after learning about the Bauhaus in class.
If anyone want to read it, just let me know.

William Pope L

Pope.L's art focuses on issues of consumption, social class, and masculinity as they relate to race. He is quoted as saying of his own work:

“I am a fisherman of social absurdity, if you will… My focus is to politicize disenfranchisement, to make it neut, to reinvent what’s beneath us, to remind us where we all come from.

"Like the African shaman who chews his pepper seeds and spits seven times into the air, I believe art re-ritualizes the everyday to reveal something fresh about our lives. This revelation is a vitality and it is a power to change the world.".

i think this is my story

I know my visual for critical inquiry was a bit confusing and textheavy, but I think if you take the time to read the translations they can be really beautiful! Jazzy and I thought they'd be nice to post here to the blog in case anyone has any spare time/was interested.
This is the most heavily translated one that took about four hours; if anyone is interested I can post the other two, they're longer, but have some amazing sentences every now and again, just like this one.

"The aim of the theory and evidence.

This book is the view of life - you will find the latest news and media protection. Jonasansafuranfoa. Gross income from other sources - Gay stories, and the developer tools, remote opening typfaces injuries in Norway. Darwin and Brazil, the situation now, we have a party.

Snowed Out: Important Message

Greetings my dear People of the Elements,

Another Friday and no class.
WOA.

I hope that you have had memorable moments this week with friends and perhaps on your own enjoying this immense snowfall!

It is significant that we will have missed two weeks of classes, and that we have a visit from Student Activities and Foundation Advising scheduled for next week. Thus, some major revisions of the syllabus have had to occur. I am sending you the revised schedule as an attachment to an email. Please review it.

Also:

1. CHROMOPHOBIA: Please finish reading it.

2. COLOR TALKS: Please be ready to declare your color talk topic of choice next week. And make sure you have researched any and all that interest you (and see if they led you to any phenomena of color talks not already on the list!)

3. JOURNALS: You should have those 5 pages I asked you to generate that first week of class Hopefully you have added to them on your own volition since then. PLEASE BRING THESE PAGES TO CLASS WITH YOU next week, ready to leave them with me!

Beyond the sketches and random thoughts that may accumulate in a journal, I would like you to see this series of pages as a record of your thinking process as an artist - a place to record what you are interested in, fascinated or inspired by. Record your research here: images you use as a reference in your work (not just in Elements, but in your art making in general), articles you may have read that affect your thinking about what you are making, or objects/materials you find that cause a spark in your thinking. Reflect on what you are making in your classes, and if you can draw any connections (thematic, materially, process etc.). This kind of journaling is going to be critical to the Visual Verbal Journey and independent project during Part 2 of this semester.

Take care and let me know if you have questions.

dear elements II,

come mid may, i will have two rooms open in my apartment.  my dear roommates are graduating and moving away.  i'm not exactly ready to post an ad or anything, but i just thought i'd throw it out there.  i'd rather not have to find summer subleters, so this will only work if you plan on staying around for the summer (for now/until we get desperate).  you would be living with myself, my boyfriend, and a cat.  also four toads, one frog, and six newts.  rent is reasonable.  heat is included.  we have wood floors and tall ceilings and a gas stove.  and we only share one wall with one other apartment.  and we are nice.  and i'd let you borrow my sewing machine any time.

feel free to pass this along if you know someone kind and not crazy who might be interested.  my e-mail is zenitram@gmail.com

love,
susie
